Seana Ditterline » About Me:

About Me:

Hi! I'm Mrs. Ditterline, and I’m so excited to support our Kindergarten and 1st grade students as their school counselor. I’ve spent over a decade helping children grow socially, emotionally, and academically, and I truly believe these early years lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning and connection.

In my role, I help students build important skills like:

  • Making and keeping friends

  • Understanding and managing big feelings

  • Solving problems in kind and safe ways

  • Feeling confident and ready to learn

I work with students through whole-class lessons, small group activities, and individual check-ins. I also partner closely with teachers and families to make sure each child feels seen, supported, and successful.

When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband of over 20 years and our 2 amazing daughters who are 11 and 16. We relocated from Washington State about 2 years ago and love living in Tennessee! I am a country music enthusiast, a sports fanatic, and a food connoisseur!

What Do School Counselors Do?

School counselors are here to support students not just with learning, but also with their social, emotional, and personal growth. In Kindergarten and 1st grade, that means we focus on helping young learners:

  • Make and keep friends

  • Understand and manage big feelings

  • Solve problems in safe and kind ways

  • Build confidence and emotional awareness

  • Feel safe, supported, and ready to learn

As a school counselor, I support students in a few different ways:

  • 👩‍🏫 Classroom Lessons
I teach lessons in every classroom on topics like kindness, feelings, friendship, coping skills, and problem-solving.
  • 👫 Small Group Counseling
I meet with small groups of students who need extra help in areas like friendship skills, emotional regulation, or coping with changes at home or school.
  • 🧠 Individual Check-Ins
Some students may benefit from short-term, one-on-one support. These check-ins provide a safe space to talk about what’s bothering them, practice calming tools, or just feel heard.
  • 🤝 Collaboration with Families & Teachers
I work closely with both teachers and parents to make sure we’re supporting the whole child and working as a team.

🔐 A Note About Confidentiality

School counseling is a safe and supportive space for students. What your child shares with me is kept private unless:

  • They give me permission to share

  • They are being hurt

  • They want to hurt themselves

  • They want to hurt someone else

If any of these situations come up, I will always reach out to a parent or guardian right away. My goal is always to keep your child safe and supported.
